Does rhinoplasty involve great aftercare? And if so, what does it consist in? Do I need specialized aftercare, and more importantly, when can normal activities be resumed?
Plastic surgeons at Renew Skin and Health Clinic can offer you exquisite nose jobs ensuring excellent cosmetic results. The procedure is done either using a general or a local anesthetic. The nose reshaping surgery consists in the surgeon making incisions inside the nose (making them invisible after the nose reshaping surgery) that offer access to the bones and cartilage that support it.
After rhinoplasty it is helpful to apply ice over the bridge of the nose, keep your head elevated, and avoid any bending or straining. Within two days from the nose reshaping surgery the surgical packing inside the nose will be removed. A dressing under the nostrils to catch fluid can be very helpful. After the rhinoplasty, your face will most likely feel puffy and for several days and your nose and eyes will be bruised and swollen. In order to reduce the pain and swelling Renew Skin and Health Clinic’s plastic surgeons recommend applying a cold compress or ice (frozen peas) on the face during the first 24 hours. It may take up to 10 to 14 days before you can perform strenuous activities.
After reshaping and rearranging the bone and cartilage the skin and tissue is redraped over the nose and a splint is placed in order to support the new shape. Once your nasal splint has been removed (generally after a week) there is not much aftercare. Although for the first three weeks the bones are not completely stabilized, you should avoid any contact sport. After that, you can mainly resume your activities. For any aftercare information you may require you can always ask one of our Renew Skin and Health Clinic specialists.
