In the past 15 years there has been an increasing number of requests for micropigmentation. You may wonder what this is, and if that is so, you should know that micropigmentation is a procedure which consists in the mechanical introduction of pigments under the skin in order to either enhance your natural features such as eyes, eyebrows’ appearance and lips or to cover up scars, hair loss and for areola reconstruction. If you haven’t realized yet what micropigmentation is, you should know that it is the cosmetic procedure known as semi-permanent or permanent make-up or cosmetic tattoo. Why both names? Our cosmetic specialist at Renew Skin and Health Clinic will answer this question for you, to put your mind at ease.

There is a major confusion in which the semi permanent make-up is also referred to as permanent due to the fact that its effects last longer than classical make-up and by that, we are referring to the fact that the effects of a semi-permanent make-up procedure last for up to 5 years. Unlike the common belief that this procedure lasts forever, the explanation is actually quite simple: due to the fact that this micropigmentation process uses inorganic, hypoallergenic pigments, these compounds actually start to wear off after a certain period of time. Moreover, because the procedure is also used to reconstruct body areas through semi permanent cosmetic tattooing, confusion is created.

Unlike the common permanent tattoo, semi-permanent cosmetic tattooing does not go so deep and it does not contain iron oxides, thus, it is less invasive and it releases you of the misbelieved conception that micropigmentation is forever and it will never look natural, when, the cosmetic pigments used have especially been created to match skin tones and hair colors, and they start fading, almost a third in the first week, until they blend naturally.

There is though, as stated before, a different pigment which is used for permanent tattoos due to the fact that it is organic and it is made from iron oxides, and some use it for make-up as well but this is not indicated as it may have serious side-effects.
